The Niagara Gorge Discovery Center showcases the natural and local history of Niagara Falls and the Niagara Gorge. Here, you can learn about the ancient rock layers, local minerals and fossils, the history of the Great Gorge Route trolley line, and much more! Interactive displays, a virtual elevator trip and a 180° multi-screen theater presentation will show you how the mighty Niagara River carved the gorge and the falls over the course of more than 12,000 years --a process that continues today!
Using a VideoComm Technologies RT-Wave wireless digital video system, the discovery center is able to transmit Real-Time DVD quality video from the Niagara Falls Observation tower back to the discovery center on the opposite side of the Peace Bridge (Canadian & USA border crossing) 1 Mile away. Guests at the discovery center are able to control the pan-tilt-zoom cameras on the observation tower and get a birds-eye view of the falls. In this application, a hard wired alternative would not be possible, convenient or economical.
To install this system, the security integrator mounted a fixed RT-Wave system on the roof of the tower; this to ensure an unobstructed line-of-sight to the discovery center. The RT-L1R5829 which delivers license-free encrypted wireless digital video up to 200 miles line of sight was the perfect choice for this building to building video link. The high-gain 29dB parabolic antenna on the transmitter was used to ensure the video link would not be interupted by environmental factors such as the thick mist plume which rises over 183 feet from the base of the falls.
